It was truly a rare occasion for Mike to express an unkind word about another person. In the infrequent times he did so it was undoubtedly another lawyer who deserved it. As his business partner and colleague of many years we would disagree, sometimes vigorously, but Mike said his piece and we moved on amicably.
I don´t know why Mike chose to become a lawyer, if he told me I probably forgot, but we came of age post Watergate and being a lawyer or crusading journalist were the hot professions. Choosing law meant your children wouldn´t starve.
Mike was good at helping people, encouraging them to do the right thing, helping them to understand difficult choices and decisions, accordingly he would have been successful whether as a lawyer, teacher, professional mentor or even a professional counselor. People were drawn to him because of those qualities. Not many have those these days.

Mike was one of the sweetest and kindest people I have ever known. He was one of my big brothers who treated everyone like family. He always greeted me with a smile and a big hug. Mike was loved and respected by many which is a tribute to his memory. The world has lost a beautiful, generous and amazing human being. Sending love and our sincerest condolences to Betty, Jennifer, Bethany, Jonathan, Jacob, Dave, Karen, Jeff and the rest of his family and friends.

Rest in Peace, Mike Riback! Your influence on my professional and personal life continues to guide me.
As my former boss and former law partner, you gave me a chance to restart my public agency law practice after my brief pivot to the world of venture funded start-ups. You entrusted me with serving our firm´s most important clients and asked me to continue your stewardship of them when you retired.
You also taught me that everyone I approach in this profession-- from the elected officials, the management, public safety workers, administrative professionals and street crews- all deserved dignity and respect. They also deserved our highest level of service.
As my dear friend, I know that my progression in this noble profession is due, in large part, to your example. The world will miss you. I will miss you.
