Michael Scott Rodgers (1984-2024)
Michael Scott Rodgers of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away at the age of 40 on October 30, 2024.
He was born in Stamford, Connecticut on February 12, 1984 to Scott and Linda (Browne) Rodgers of Darien, Connecticut. He spent his early childhood in Fairfield County, Connecticut, with his sister, Lindsey, enjoying the beaches of Long Island Sound in the summer and the spectacular fall foliage throughout the cooler months. He had the privilege of living near his beloved grandparents, who hosted frequent family gatherings, outings, and meals.
After living in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for a short period, Michael and family settled in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he would reside for the remainder of his life. Michael graduated from Lawrence Central High School in 2002 and following graduation, established a career for himself as a baker at various establishments. In his free time, he enjoyed video gaming, playing poker, and being a devoted friend.
At the age of eight, Michael started exhibiting increased thirst, fatigue, and other questionable symptoms. After a week in the hospital, he was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, otherwise known as Type 1 Diabetes. He required around-the-clock blood sugar monitoring and insulin administration. His mother unfailingly tracked sugar readings, dosed his medication, and helped his classmates understand his new affliction. Unfortunately, the disease which made him unique would become his largest struggle. Michael fought his battle with insulin-dependent diabetes for over three decades; but in the end, this disease prevailed.
Above all, Michael had a kind and generous spirit and sought opportunities to help those less fortunate. Unimpressed with material possessions, he donated generously to local food banks and honored random acts of kindness. In this Thanksgiving season, it would be his hope that those who remain earthside engage in charitable acts and kindness.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Rodgers and grandparents Francis G. “Buck” and Helen Rodgers and Glenn and Barbara Browne. He is survived by his father, Scott Rodgers (partner Lisa Lair) of Indianapolis, Indiana; sister Lindsey (Charles) Barman, nephew Theodore, and niece Helene of Charleston, South Carolina; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; many loyal friends and his beloved pet cat.
