Michael P. Rolan

GROTON – Michael P. Rolan, 66, a loving husband, father and grandfather, died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 17, 2016. Born in Passaic, New Jersey on March 27, 1950 he was the son of the late Charles and Laura (Gardnier) Rolan. Michael grew up in Wallingford and was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Nazarene Bible College in Colorado. In 1969 he enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War as a military police officer. After the war he returned home and began a long and rewarding career serving as the Pastor at the Newport Church of the Nazarene in Newport, Vermont. He later served at the Danielson Church of the Nazarene in Danielson, Connecticut and last served at the Martinsburg Church of the Nazarene in West Virginia. He was a kind, compassionate person with a great sense of humor. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh with him. He was an avid reader who loved reading the bible. He was a devoted and loving husband to Maryanne (Morasutti) Rolan. They were married in Wallingford and would have celebrated their 40th anniversary in October. He will be forever loved and truly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife Maryanne, he is survived by three daughters, Brynn Rolan Hickey, Rebekah Rolan, and Katie Rolan; two grandchildren, Brynn Ann-Marie Hickey and Michael Rolan Hickey; and two brothers, Richard and Mark Rolan. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 21st, at 5:00 pm at the Seaport Community Church, 28 Great Brook Rd, Groton. There will also be a presentation of military honors in recognition of his honorable military service. The Woyasz & Son Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
