We were also among the Parklands Geology gangs of 1983 and 1991. What memories! Jack brought a student group "out West" and as an earth science teacher, he had a National Parks project as a conclusion to the earth science school year. Doc's travels truly had an impact in our lives because our children moved to the West upon college graduation (they both were in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at Penn State) and upon retirement, we followed them to Colorado!! Now we live less than 2 hours from Moab and travel there often and all through Utah as our playground. Doc knew of his impact in our lives, and I believe he is proud of all of us.

We knew Doc and The Silver Duchess (and the cats) through his geology field courses at EUP. We traveled with him for 2 summers, 1983 and 1991. Our children were young and it was a great adventure for them; challenging for us as parents sometimes though! Doc could be demanding of his students. But what a character. Even after all these years, we still have funny, serious, exasperating and touching memories of those trips. Travel on, Doc! We were among the lucky ones to have known and worked with you.
