The Reverend Michael J. Sciberras, a Senior Priest Active in the Diocese of Greensburg, passed away in Leechburg, PA on January 31, 2026. He was 94 years old.

Born in Detroit, Michigan on January 15, 1932, he was a son of the late Cocifisso and Nancy (Camilleri) Sciberras. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Maltese Church in Detroit.

He was educated at his hometown parish's primary school, Most Holy Trinity School, for eight years. He went to Assumption College High School in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He attended Assumption College for a year and then spent four years at the University of Detroit where he earned a Master's Degree in Education. He attended seminary at Sacred Heart and St. John Provincial, both in Detroit, and at St. Francis Seminary in Loretto, PA.

Father Sciberras was ordained to the Priesthood by The Most Reverend William G. Connare on May 13, 1967 at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg, PA.

Fr. Mike served in numerous assignments in his almost 59 years of Priesthood. He was Assistant Pastor of the former St. Cajetan, Monessen, and St. Regis, Trafford. For a time, he was the Assistant Principal at Greensburg Central Catholic High School, and Chaplain and Instructor at Seton Hill College in Greensburg.

From 1971 through 1990, he was Spiritual Director for the Diocese of Greensburg Cursillo Movement.

In 1974, he became Pastor of the former St. John the Baptist, Heilwood, and its former mission of Sacred Heart, Alverda, and St. Patrick, Cameron's Bottom. He also served as Pastor at the former Holy Rosary Parish, Republic; Immaculate Conception Parish in Connellsville, and its former mission of Sacred Heart, Dawson; and Our Lady, Queen of Peace in East Vandergrift.

He attended the Institute for Continuing Studies in Rome, Italy and served as Regional Moderator for Region 2 in the Diocese of Greensburg.

In 2008, he was assigned as Senior Priest Active, with pastoral responsibilities at St. James in Apollo, and Our Lady, Queen of Peace in East Vandergrift.

Since 2019, Father Sciberras has served as Senior Priest Active at Christ the King Parish in Leechburg and Saint Gertrude Parish in Vandergrift.

Fr. Mike travelled extensively, specifically to Malta, Italy, to trace his familial roots. He enjoyed being around people and taking walks. He also served our country with the United States Army as a Chaplain's Assistant.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo. Additional viewing will be held in Christ the King Parish, 125 Park Road, Leechburg on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until the Parting Prayers of Transfer at 10:30 a.m. in the church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Parish with The Most Reverend Larry J. Kulick, JCL as Celebrant, and Father Alan Polczynski as Concelebrant. Private interment in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery, Greensburg.

Please accept my sympathy. I came to know Father during his tenure at Greensburg Central Catholic High School. Kind gentleman and accomplished individual, the good father served many. May his soul rest in peace. His memory will remain in my daily prayers.
