Michael David Smith, known affectionately as Mike or Pikey, passed away on April 6, 2024, after a courageous battle with advanced Stage 4 Lung and Brain Cancer. Mike was born on December 16, 1966, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of Terry M. and Catherine Jean (Butler) Smith.
Mike attended Grand Rapids Central High School. His employment varied from doing carnival work to his dedicated service at U-Rent-It, Inc., Sun Rentals, Inc., and Kentwood Rentals, Inc., where he worked alongside Bryan. Mike was known as an A++ worker.
Mike was a loving and protective father; he adored his daughters and had many lifelong friends. He was a genuine friend, very straightforward, and extremely known for his stubbornness, but soft heart.
Mike liked watching the Detroit Tigers, golf, football, and car races. He relished the simple pleasures of sitting outside in the sun, listening to music, and enjoying a cold one. Mike never lied, a trait that earned him respect and trust. His goofy demeanor and love for his grandchildren added joy and laughter to family gatherings. Kayla will forever be a daddy's girl and will miss him to no end. "Party on, Wayne."
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Terry Matthew Smith.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Kayla (Nicholas) Glasgow of Delton, MI, and Amanda Smith of Freeport, MI; his grandchildren Trenton Young, Jordon Glasgow, Braydon Glasgow, Addison Glasgow, and Mason Glasgow; his sister, Mary (Chris) Hawkins of Howell, MI, and his nieces, Jeanette (Jason) Mayrand of Holland, MI, and Stephanie Nobel of Houston, TX.
Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Mike's Life will take place in June 2024. An exact date will be announced here soon. Arrangements by Girrbach Funeral Home. To leave an online condolence visit www.girrbachfuneralhome.net.
