Michael David Smith, 60, of Madison, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025, in Moberly, Missouri.
Mike was born on February 8, 1965, in Elgin, Illinois, to Theodore John Smith and Sylvia Lee Smith. He spent his life rooted in hard work, community, and family values. A lifelong farmer, Mike proudly served his community as a member of the Moberly Fire Department for 30 years before retiring. He later continued helping others as a local plumber for nearly two decades, always willing to lend his skills to anyone who needed them.
Known for his big heart and unforgettable personality, Mike was hardworking, kind, funny, caring, and ornery in the very best way. He never met a stranger, and his generous spirit meant he was always the first to offer a helping hand. His love for the outdoors ran deep- he cherished life on the farm, tending to cattle, and spending countless hours on his 4020 tractor or riding his four – wheeler. He enjoyed fishing with family and friends and was an avid coon hunter and lifelong animal lover. Above all, his children and family were his pride and joy.
Mike is survived by his son, Dylan Smith of Bentonville, Arkansas; daughter Maddie (Tristan) Best of Moberly, Missouri; and beloved granddaughter Harper Best of Moberly, Missouri. He is also survived by his siblings Gail (James) Meyers of Paris, Missouri; Mary E. McGee of Holliday, Missouri; Steven (Jeanette) Smith of Huntsville, Missouri; Alvin (Charlene) Smith of McConnell, Illinois; Janet (David) Hall of Sudan, Texas; and Rose E. Smith of Moberly, Missouri; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Sylvia Smith, and his brothers Thoedore J. Smith and John C. Smith.
Mikes legacy will forever live on in the lives he touched, the work he completed, and the love he poured into his family and community.
