Charlotte, North Carolina - Michael was born May 31, 1958, in Salisbury, NC, and died in Charlotte, January 3, 2026, at the age of 67. Michael was a son of the late Fred and Mildred Smith; brother to Patricia Miller, Fred "Buddy" Smith (Anne), and Barbara Smith (Phil); uncle to Jennifer Baucom (Patricia), and Michael Smith, and Kathryn Moses (Buddy); father to Christopher Smith (Nicole), Taylor Smith, and Graham Smith; husband to Rebecca "Kitty" Smith; and grandfather to Madeline Smith and James Smith (Chris).
His loving memory will remain with his family and friends including his longest and dearest friend Andy Anderson (Patricia).
A celebration of life will be held at 1 pm Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203.
Donations may be made to the Wild Animal Sanctuary, 1946 County Road 53, Keenesburg, CO 80643.

Sad to hear of Mike´s passing. At Glade Foley high school I remember is larger than life, personality, his jokes; he brought light into the room. Sincerest condolences to his loving family and to Andy, our GV classmate.

Sending all of the love to Chris, Taylor, Graham, Mrs Debbie and the rest of the family! Mr Mike was one of the first father figures I can recall in my distant childhood memories. He was always kind when we talked and wanted the best for his boys, even when they thought they knew better, haha. He wanted all of them and us Windsor Drive kids to find success and happiness, even if it meant doing the more difficult things(like going to bed on time). I hope he finds peace in the next life and looks over us all while we work to make him proud. May we all learn lessons from his example, celebrate his life and remember his name!!

I am so sorry to hear of Michael´s passing. We attended Glade Valley High School together many years ago. Although we lost touch through the years I have very fond memories of him. My thoughts and prayers for his family and his friends!
