Bishop Michael D. Spires

I will always remember and be forever touched by the personableness and his very approachable manner when I first came to the Lighthouse on Whiteford & Blvd. I was only 11 years old but he made leadership real to me by allowing himself to be accessible even to little children. I remember my 1st. on a Ray of Hope camping trip at Pine Mt. GA in which he allowed the children to braid his hair and let it stay braided for at least the whole day, and the fishing in the pond. That was a life altering moment in my little mind [at the time] and my respect for him grew as this church was where I started my salvation journey and it laid the foundation for many years later [age 52]. I always pull on this experience when remembering the start of my life in Christ. My prayers and well wishes of encouragement and endurance in God to the family and friends. Sis. Spires I still remember you. God bless and keep you through this next phase of your life. Although he's not here, please still live in Christ. Formerly Gloria Blalock, married to Eld. Bobby Kitchen [the former guitarist at the church '78-'89]. Our prayers will continue with you.

Bishop Spires was a man who loved the Lord and his family. He was not ever without a smile or kind word. My condolences to the family, may God grant you with peace during you time of sorrow. LaShon "Peaches" Edwards-Bryant.

Rest in peace Bishop. Angels are rejoicing in heaven for your arrival. Thank you for everything and every part you played in my life. I will keep you and the Spires family in my heart forever. the light will always shine at The Church of Atlanta Lighthouse because of you and Pastor Doris.
