Michael Splitt Obituary

Michael grew up in Westfield and graduated from Westfield High School in 1979. After high school, he attended The Culinary Institute of America and graduated with a degree in culinary arts.
Michael's career as a professional chef afforded him the opportunity to work overseas, which spurred his love of travel. He worked as an executive chef in Munich, Germany, as well as held positions in London. He opened his own restaurant, the Cherry Street Café, in Rahway. Michael's love of educating others about culinary arts led him to leave the restaurant life to become a culinary teacher at Union County Vocational School in Scotch Plains for over 25 years before retiring.
He will be remembered for his love of cooking, educating and mentoring his students, traveling, and gardening. Michael was a member of the Garwood Knights of Columbus.
He was predeceased by his father, Frank. He is survived by a wonderful family who will miss him dearly and remember him always: his mother, Helen, and sisters Laura Reimer of Switzerland, Lisa (Kevin) Barry of NC, and Mary Ann (Tom) Macintyre of NJ. Michael was the beloved uncle to Kyle, Shane, James, Neil, Alex, Maggie, and Hannah.
Visitation will be at Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Ave., Westfield, on Friday, March 11th, from 4 PM to 8 PM. Michael's Mass will be at St. Helen Roman Catholic Church in Westfield on Saturday, March 12th at 10 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Michael's memory to the Knights of Columbus in Garwood, NJ.
