Michael Swaffar Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heritage Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory on Mar. 19, 2026.
With heavy hearts, we share the news of Michael 'Mike' John Swaffar, born on December 9, 1960, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, who departed this world on March 12, 2026, in Byron, Georgia. Mike was an good husband, father, brother, and friend whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Audra Swaffar. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Nancy Doris Swaffar, and his children, Heather Swaffar (Nish) and Michael Swaffar. He is also survived by his brothers, Victor 'Vic' Swaffar (Dody) and Patrick 'Pat' Swaffar (Tracy), along with his step-sister, Tina McGough (Robert), and step-brother, Mark Medford (Francie) and Step Mother Betty Swaffar. Together, they will carry on his legacy of kindness and strength.

Mike dedicated a significant portion of his life to his career as an aircraft sheet metal mechanic. He worked with several prestigious organizations, including Boeing, Lucas Aerospace, and Robins Air Force Base, where he contributed to the maintenance of the C-130 aircraft, showcasing his skills and commitment to excellence in his field.

Known for his energetic personality and kind heart, Michael was always the first to lend a helping hand to those in need. He had a remarkable ability to fix just about anything, often delighting friends and family with his resourcefulness. A true outdoorsman at heart, he was an avid hunter, and fisherman who embraced nature. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and boating. He had a special fondness for horses, of which he once had four, and their many pets (most being foundlings)-defined his love all living things.

Mike's family is choosing to hold a private ceremony to honor his memory. While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the lively, generous spirit that he brought to our lives.

We invite all who knew Mike to remember him fondly. His laughter, compassion, and adventures will be missed dearly and live on in our hearts.
