Michael J. Truppo, of Budd Lake, NJ, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025. He was 89 years old.
Born in Newark, NJ on November 6, 1935, Michael was the son of the late Joseph and Minnie Truppo (née Lupia). He was a proud graduate of NJIT (then known as NJ College of Engineering), Class of 1957, where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Michael went on to serve his country honorably as an officer in the United States Air Force. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6100.
Michael was married to his beloved wife Mickie (née Tietz) on January 10th, 1958, in Japan, where he was serving in the Air Force at that time. Their first child, Therése was also born in Japan.
Mike retired as a Vice President from Action Technology, Rockaway NJ in 1987, where he was employed for over 20 years. As a retiree, he toured the country by motor home with his beloved wife Mickie, and then started a business as a hot dog vendor, selling from his truck on Rt 46 in Budd Lake. He was also well known as a charming Santa Claus at the local mall for many years. He was a man of faith, who practiced the tenets on the Catholic church in his life, particularly in the exceptional care he gave to Mickie as she struggled for years with health problems. He was her advocate, companion and caregiver, and devoted his life to her in her time of need.
Michael was an avid reader, and enjoyed astronomy as one of many hobbies. He was passionate about social issues, and became involved in local groups who fought for gun control laws in NJ and federally. He was a volunteer at Hackettstown Medical Center, and with the American Red Cross assisting with blood drives. He was also a highly accomplished pianist, and acted in local theater many times. His love for music and theater was passed on to his children, and highly encouraged in their endeavors.
After retirement, Mike's greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandkids, creating great memories with frequent trips to Land of Make Believe and Budd Lake beach. He also enjoyed cooking (and eating) family specialties with Mickie and the grandkids, a tradition he continued even after he became a widower in 2014. He was a great connoisseur of ice cream, and his family is happy to report that he enjoyed ice cream as his very last meal on this good earth.
Michael is survived by his loving children: Therese Blewitt and her husband Joe, Jacqueline Crowe and her husband Tom, and Joseph Truppo and his wife Helen. He is also survived by his brothers, Joseph Truppo and his wife Antoinette, and George Truppo and his wife Susan, and James Lawson, partner to John Truppo. Michael leaves behind six cherished grandchildren, Kelly and Lulu Blewitt, Tal and Ava Crowe, and Katie and BT Truppo. He was predeceased by his much loved wife, Mickie, and his brother, John Truppo.
