Michael J. Valdez, born on October 2, 1963, in the heart of New Mexico, was a cherished member of his family and community. He unexpectedly departed this life on July 22, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and generosity that will be remembered by all who knew him.
Michael had a distinguished career, retiring from various positions with the State of New Mexico. His dedication to public service was matched only by his pride in having served in the Army, stationed at Fort Bliss. As a veteran, he held a deep sense of pride in his military service, which complemented his warm and caring personality.
Described as the most kind and generous person, Michael embodied qualities that made him a beloved figure among friends and family. His zest for life was evident in his favorite pastimes, which included fishing, outdoor adventures, traveling, and spending quality time with his numerous friends and family, all of whom he held dear.
He is survived by his son, Michael Valdez; his significant other, Michelle E. Duran; his brothers Joseph V. Valdez II (Teresa), Robert M. Valdez, and Richard A. Valdez (Dolores); and his sisters Alice R. Valdez and Elizabeth M. Valdez (Tim), Goddaughter Caitlin. Michael's warmth and spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of his loved ones.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph V. Valdez and Joanne M. Valdez, and his sister Louise Kippert, all of whom were instrumental in shaping his values and the person he became.
A Rosary will be held on August 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM, both taking place at Rivera Family Funeral & Cremations of Santa Fe, located at 417 East Rodeo Rd, Santa Fe, NM 87505. A military burial will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:30 PM.
Michael J. Valdez’s unexpected passing leaves a void that may never be filled, yet his legacy of love, generosity, and commitment to family will endure as a comforting reminder of a life well-lived.
