Michael Wierzbicki Obituary
WATERVLIET - Michael F. "Mickey" Wierzbicki, 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born and educated in Amsterdam, N.Y., and was the loving son of the late Michael and Irene Wierzbicki. After a brief tenure as "an old sew-and-sew" at Carbone Carpets in Scotia, he became a machinist for many years at, and retired from, the General Electric Company in Schenectady. Mickey enjoyed being around family, cheering on the Buffalo Bills and Boston Red Sox, and was an avid lover of dogs. He enjoyed international travel and relocation to his beloved Saratoga Springs after retiring. Mickey had a quick sense of humor and always made those around him laugh with his sharp wit. Mickey was also blessed by God with an amazing talent for painting, which he enjoyed immensely after retiring.
Mickey was the beloved husband of the late Ann "Bobbie" Wierzbicki; and the beloved father of Michael G. Wierzbicki (Brenda) and the late Timothy P. Wierzbicki (Melissa Dalton). He was also predeceased by his brother, Ronald (Jean Grippi) Wierzbicki; and is survived by his brother, James and his sister, Marie (Wierzbicki) Mihok. He is also survived by his former wife, Mary Lou Jones; grandchildren, Justin and Heather, assorted great-grandchildren, cousins, and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Mickey's family on Thursday, February 2, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. Funeral services on Friday, February 3, at 11 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church, 50-52 Cornell St., Amsterdam, where his funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will be held in St. John's Cemetery, 244 Widow Susan Road, Amsterdam, immediately following the Mass.
