Mike died unexpectedly on December 17th, 2025, at his residence. The family is deeply saddened by his sudden death and will miss his laughter, smile and his ability to tell a good story.
Mike was born in Minnesota on July 5th, 1946. His first jobs were as a caddie, grounds crew worker and kitchen staff at Minnesota Valley Country Club. This is where he learned to love the game of golf.
He then worked his way up the ladder at AT&T for 30 years ending in Sales Management. He retired in 1997 at the age of 51. He and Linda split their time between Minnesota and Las Cruces for several years before moving to New Mexico full time. Never out of the business mode he maintained rental properties for many years. He really lived the American dream.
He was very handy around the house and was willing to share his knowledge and skills with neighbors and friends and he did so many times. He was also constantly researching new techniques and ideas to solve a problem or utilize new technology. Many friends and neighbors appreciated his early adoption of solar power and followed his lead. He also researched and shared everyday bargains. He loved a good deal. He was a loyal, helpful friend.
He loved golfing at Picacho Hills Country Club, especially with the Bandits, an afternoon ride on his Harley (Mike loved his toys) to Chope's, and a good rum and coke.
Mike had an opinion about everything. He would share this opinion with anybody who would listen. Agree or not you sure knew where he
stood.
He is survived by Linda, his wife of 30 years, his faithful dogs Dottie and Jimmy, his sister Peggy Borchert (John) of MN, daughters Tracy Whetsel (Martin) of MN and Kristi Woodbury (Jimmy Eberhardy) and grandsons Gavin and Aidin Woodbury of WI, many relatives and wonderful friends.
