Michael Wootan Obituary

Michael John Wootan "Mike" (February 15th, 1943 – September 13th, 2025).

Mike passed away peacefully on September 13th at the age of 82.

Born on February 15th, 1943, to Cal and Edith Wootan, Mike spent his early years in North Tacoma. The family moved to Lakewood in the mid-'50's and Mike graduated from Clover Park High School in 1960. After four years seeing the world with the Navy, Mike returned to Washington.

After being set up on a blind date by his future brother-in-law, James Nunn, Mike married Judy Fuchs in 1970. Mike and Judy raised their family in Lakewood, welcoming daughter Monica in 1973 and son Jim in 1974. Mike was a family man who loved sharing camping trips, days fishing, Lake Chelan vacations, family picnics, and Christmas parties with Judy, Monica, and Jim, as well as his treasured Fuchs family sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Mike enjoyed a long career with the City of Tacoma Street Maintenance Division, the best part of which was the lifelong friends he made there. In retirement, he loved breakfasts out, road trips, and Street Maintenance retirement parties (showing off at the 4-5-6 table) with his buddies.

Mike is preceded in death by his loving and always patient wife of nearly 50 years, Judy. He is survived by his son Jim, daughter and son-in-law Monica and Josh LeJeune, grandchildren Josie and Michael, great friend Mark Ermatinger and many other wonderful friends, and his dearly loved extended Fuchs family.

A celebration of life to honor Mike will take place on a date to be determined.
