Lt Col Michael Erskine Wright (retired), 75, passed away June 4th, 2025 in Bedford, New Hampshire with family by his side. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts to parents Dr. William E. Wright and Margaret “Peg” Wright. He attended Walter Johnson high school in Bethesda MD, and graduated as a math major from Alfred University in 1971. Lt. Col Wright also attained two Masters, one from University of Southern California, and one from the Naval Postgraduate School. Lt Col Wright faithfully served his country for 21 years in the USAF, followed by meaningful defense sector work at MITRE.
Michael is survived by his cherished wife of 54 years Nicolette “Nickie” Wright (née Austin), beloved daughters Courtney Wright and Kendall (Chris) Taylor, treasured grandson Owen, dear sisters Sara Dean "Deanie" (Robert “Broc”) Broccolino and Leslie (Robert “Bob”) Consroe and six sweet nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. William E. Wright and Peg Wright and sister Margaret “Meg”Schultz.
Michael was a devoted father and husband who enjoyed walks in the woods. He filled the house with rock, jazz, and blues music. He also liked watching the Boston Red Sox, and Sci-fi shows like Doctor Who and Star Trek. He humorously referred to himself as a "kitchen elf" when tidying up after Nickie's wonderful cookery.
Michael was diagnosed with ALS in August 2023. Throughout his illness, he continued to keep a smile on his face and shared his wonderful sense of humor with those around him.
SERVICES: A celebration of life will be planned for later in the summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lt Col Wright's name to Paralyzed Veterans of America, an organization that supports our Nation’s veterans, including those fighting ALS as a result of their service.
