Michael Zanol Obituary

Michael Edward Zanol
June 22, 1956 - September 27, 2024
Michael Edward Zanol, 68, of East Wenatchee, died September 27, 2024 at his home.
He was born at St. Anthony's Hospital in Wenatchee on June 22, 1956, the first-born son of Billy Raymond Zanol and Jacquelyn Marie (Short) Zanol.
"Mickey" was raised at the family home in Orondo, which his father had built, with his eight brothers and sisters. His education started at the Orondo Elementary school, followed by Sterling Junior High School and graduating from Eastmont High School in 1974. Mike graduated cum laude from Gonzaga University in 1978 and from the Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College in Portland in 1981. After passing the Bar, he returned home and practiced law in the Wenatchee area for the rest of his life.
As the eldest son of a fruit rancher, he was compelled to learn a strong work ethic and dependability. These qualities served him well in his long practice of law. He was widely known for dogged loyalty to his clients and determination to always obtain the best possible results for them. Mike was a fixture in the downtown Wenatchee social scene. Blessed with a remarkable memory, he (and his brother John) joined and enjoyed trivia competitions. He loved and was much loved by his downtown community among the brew pubs, cider bars and restaurants. He had a livelong love of nature, and he spent many days and miles exploring the wilderness.
He was preceded in death my his father, Bill Zanol; his aunt, Elnor Reid; his sisters, Mary Sue Zanol, Therese Hewitt, Elizabeth Daniel; and his beloved nephew, David Steichen. He is survived by his mother, Jackie Zanol; sister, Joan Steichen; brothers, John (Jane) Zanol, Thomas (Angie Greene), Andrew Zanol, and Anthony Zanol (Karen O'Connor); his first cousins, Gary, Terry and Bill Reid; eighteen nieces and nephews; and twenty-eight great-nieces and nephews; as well as his rescue dog, Sage.
The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday, October 7 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wenatchee. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. A luncheon will follow the Mass, and then the burial will take place at Orondo Cemetery at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, bequests may be made to the Wenatchee Humane Society https://www.wenatcheehumane.org/helptoday or Columbia Legal Services https://columbialegal.org/donate/.

I faced Mike many times in court as and adversary. He was always polite and very friendly away from the courtroom. I always respected him and knew that his dogged determination to represent his client was his sworn duty. He did not hold a grudge and was always very personable. My condolences to his family, may he rest in the arms of the Lord.
