Michael Sender Zolno, a cherished husband, father, and friend, passed away on December 10, 2025, in
Phoenix, Arizona, due to heart failure. Born on February 8, 1947, in a PD Camp in Germany, Michael's resilience and strength were evident from the start, traits that would define his character throughout his life. He was 78 years old.
Michael carried with him a rich tapestry of experiences that began with his early years in post-war Germany. His family's journey eventually led them to the United States, where Michael would go on to build a life marked by dedication, service, and the pursuit of knowledge. He earned his MA in Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle, a testament to his belief in the power of education.
Professionally, Michael began his career as a Juvenile Probation Officer with the Cook County Court, where he demonstrated a deep commitment to the wellbeing of young people. Later, as an Independent Business Consultant, he continued to impact others through his wisdom, integrity, and keen insight into the world of business. Michael's work ethic and his desire to make a difference were second to none.
Michael's life was guided by the principles of his Jewish faith, which provided him with a foundation of community and spirituality. His commitment to his heritage was also evident in his active involvement with the Children of Survivors Holocaust Association in Chicago, where, as one time President, he worked to preserve the legacy and lessons of the past for future generations.
Beyond his professional and community endeavors, Michael's personal passions brought joy to those around him. An avid reader and music lover, he found solace and delight in the works of George Carlin and the Marx Brothers, whose humor resonated with his own quick wit and love of laughter. Michael's passion for the Chicago White Sox was unwavering, and game days were always a special occasion in the Zolno household.
At home, Michael was a devoted spouse to his beloved wife, Sharon Kipnis Zolno, and a loving father to his son, Hershel David Zolno. He was predeceased by his daughter, Lori Beth Zolno, whose memory remained a guiding light in his life. The family's Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Lady Z, brought additional warmth and companionship to his days.
As we remember Michael, we are reminded of the words of Albert Einstein, "The value of a man resides in what he gives and not in what he is capable of receiving." Michael's life was a true embodiment of this sentiment, as he gave generously of himself to his family, friends, and community.
Michael Sender Zolno will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, humor, and unwavering support will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. May his memory be a blessing.
