Michal Keune Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barbara Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc - Centre Hall on Dec. 29, 2023.
Michal A. Keune, 82, of Centre Hall, peacefully entered into her eternal rest while surrounded by the love of her family on Sunday, December 24, 2023. Born on January 26, 1941, in Hillsdale, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late John Kenneth and Mary Lou (Addis) McGriff. On December 11, 1960, in Fostoria, Ohio, she married her partner in life, Manfred E. Keune, who survives at home.
Michal graduated from Fostoria Jr. Sr. High School. She earned her bachelors in education from the Bowling Green State University. She spent many years teaching young minds English in Michigan and then Tyrone prior to working in the rare books room at the Pattee Library and eventually working as an Investment Advisor.
Michal was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County in State College. She was also a member of the Business Professional Woman's Group. As a member of the Kiwanis Club in State College, she was recognized as the first honorable member and first female to serve as their President in Centre County. In high school, Michal played the flute in the marching band, which continued a passion and love of music in her daughter, who is an accomplished flute and piano player and her grandsons, whom both played the saxophone in marching band. She was proud of the music and drama that she infused into her family and passed along. She was an avid reader, always looking for a good mystery novel. She loved to travel, whether it was to the beach or a trip to Europe with her husband, she enjoyed every moment. She was enthralled with nature and all its beauty, especially birds and cats. She adored her feline companion. She cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, above all else. She was a strong and steadfast woman, extremely committed to her family and marriage, kind, whole hearted, and intelligent. She held many titles, from daughter and sister to wife and "Mo," but her favorite title was "Oma."
Along with her husband of 62 years, Michal is survived by her daughter, Kirsten A. Holliday and her fiancé, Dave Guss, of Colyer; her two grandsons, Oscar and Sullivan Holliday; and her sister, Stevie Ellison.
A Celebration of Life or Michal will be held later in the spring at the Unitarian Fellowship Church, 780 Waupelani Drive Ext, State College. The date and time will be announced on Barbara Daughenbaugh Funeral Home's website at a later date, please check back for updates.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County, 780 Waupelani Drive Ext, State College, PA 16801.

Mrs. Keune was my high school English teacher and journalism advisor in the 60´s at Eaton Rapids High School. I am privileged to say she was my teacher and taught me so much. She was an inspirational teacher who had a passion for her job and her students.
