Michèle Mahland Obituary
Michèle Mahland, loving wife of the late G. Richard Mahland (Dick) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 8, 2022.
Michèle was born in Lancaster, PA on August 20, 1944, a daughter of the late David and Gertrude Wireback. She graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School and later went on to attend Mount Aloysius College.
Upon graduation, she moved to New York City where she met Dick, and they later married. Together they spent their weekends as avid skiers in Vermont where they owned a home. Eventually moving to Ridgefield they lived in Westmoreland where they made many great friends.
As a resident of Ridgefield since 1987, she was a guide at the Keeler Tavern and worked with the Ridgefield Historical Society. Michèle was also a loyal fan of the early 90's RHS Basketball team. She and Dick never missed a game making lifelong friends along the way. She was an avid tennis player and gardener. Michèle would stay out gardening long after dusk in the summer, her backyard gardens were her treasured creations and favorite place to host family and friends.
While she enjoyed traveling in Europe, her favorite vacations were in Cape May, NJ with her family.
Her greatest joy of all was spending time with her 4 grandchildren; reading stories, jumping the waves, and mending countless stuffed animals.
She will be dearly missed by her son Erik, daughter-in-law, Heather, of New York, NY; daughter Sloane and son-in-law, Edward Dunn of Armonk, NY. The 4 best grandchildren in the world, Terrence and Mark Dunn and Grace and Margaux Mahland will always cherish memories of their Grammy.
She is also survived by her sister Anne, brother-in-law, Robert Whitmeyer, of Charlotte, NC, and her brother, David Wireback of Stockton, CA.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at 10:00 am at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield, CT.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society www.givenow.lls.org
