Michelle "Shelly" Darlene Barker, 53, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2025. She was born August 5, 1971 in Forsyth County to the late Ambrose Barker, and Lela Frizzell Barker. Michelle loved people, and was a social butterfly who never met a stranger. She was a very special soul. It was common for her to stop random people to tell them they were beautiful or handsome. She would know you for all of one minute, and then tell you she loved you the next minute. Michelle would often claim people as her brother or sister, despite knowing them for all of 2 minutes. She also loved her family, her Aunt Nina Green, her many extended family, the color purple, flowers, and painting them on a canvas. She was known for serving as a greeter at First Assembly of God growing up and absolutely loved it. She was such an example of how Jesus loves, loving all people and seeing good in each one of them. Michelle was preceded in death by her parents, and her nephew, Joby Barker Jr. Surviving are her sister, Jennifer Barker Snow (special brother-in-law, Scott), her two brothers, Joby Barker (Kim), and Terry Vance (Ailyn), her nephews and nieces, Cody (Anna) Snow, Bethanie Snow, Josh Barker, Jared Barker, Jonathan Barker, Kyra Vance, and great niece and nephew, Emmeline Snow, and Emmett Snow. Also surviving is Michelle and Jennifer's best friend and sister since childhood, Hope Smith Thompson. Jennifer would like to say a very special thank you to the staff of RHA Health Services, and specifically those at Lewis Fork II for being a second family to Michelle, and loving her as such. She would also like to thank all of the wonderful, caring doctors and nurses, especially in the ICU at Atrium, Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, specifically Nadia Acevedo Luis, RN, for the amazing extraordinary care they all provided to Michelle. Jennifer would also like to say how very much she loves Michelle and will miss her, but Sissy will see you again, my sweet Shelly girl! A funeral service will be 3:30 PM, Friday, February 7, 2025 at United Family Church in Lewisville. The family will receive friends after the service at the church. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Barker family.
The nightly ceremony in Washington, D.C. will be dedicated in honor of your loved one on the day of your choosing.
