Michelle Lynn Marquez, known by everyone as Shelly, passed away unexpectedly Friday, November 21 2025. Shelly was born in Greenville, North Carolina and grew up in Little Washington for a brief period, before spending the majority of her childhood in the Raleigh/Durham area.

Shelly is survived by her husband Tony Marquez of 13 years, daughter Lillian 10, and step-daughter Gwen 18. Additionally, she is survived by her parents Bill Weatherington (Valerie) and Marcia VanMeter (Stephen), her sister Tina Weatherington, brother Joseph Matthews and Tina's children, Kayla Weatherington and Noah Crocker.

Shelly attended public schools in Raleigh and Durham, graduated from Durham's Jordan High School in 1999 and later earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from UNCC. Her work career included Payroll, Recruiting and Human Resource Management. Over the past 7 years she worked for the nonprofit Amity Medical Group in multiple roles including her most recent as the Director of Policy and Compliance.

Shelly was outgoing with a great sense of humor who kept life-long relationships going back to elementary school. She loved life, spending time with Lilly and family, the beach, and decorating for holidays. Shelly also loved traveling, including multiple trips to Europe beginning in high school, when she saved up a good portion of the cost while working.

As the family is in shock, please keep them in your prayers. Honorariums may be given to Bethel Presbyterian Church.

Services for Shelly will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2025 beginning with a visitation from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 19920 Bethel Church Road, Cornelius, NC 28031, followed by a celebration of Shelly's life at 3:00 PM officiated by Reverand Aaron Moore.
