Mike Ayers

Michael Eugene Ayers, age 69 of Bridgeport, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, January 5, 2024. He was born August 9, 1954, in Vincennes, IN to Eugene and Rosella (Wagner) Ayers.
On June 10, 1977, Mike married Deborah Kirkwood. For 46 years, Mike and Deb raised their family and made many beautiful memories.
As a young man, Mike graduated from Bridgeport Township High School in 1972. Then, he went to work for Herb Young Construction until he began working at Marathon. When Marathon closed locally, Mike and Jerry Spillman began S & A Construction. Over the last several years, he had worked for Mike Preston Construction.
Mike enjoyed cooking, coming up with new recipes, and truly loved watching the grandkids in their sports. He enjoyed carpentry and dedicated most of his life to the trade. Above all things, he was a family man! He loved his family and spending time with them.Time spent at the "Shanty" with family and friends was at the top of his list as well. His sense of humor will never be forgotten.
Mike's memory lives on through his surviving family: wife- Deborah Ayers; two daughters- Jodi Hill and husband Charlie and Emily Davis and husband Corey; honorary son- Kevin Vinsel and wife Ann; three grandchildren- Kendall Davis, Carter Davis, a Charlee Jo Hill; honorary grandson- Kameron Vinsel and wife Olivia; three siblings- Marilyn Birkes and husband Darrell, Cindy Wells and husband Glen, and Stan Ayers and wife Barbara; brother-in-law- Jerry Kirkwood; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In true Mike fashion, a celebration will take place. On Friday, January 12, 2024, a celebration of life will be held at the Ayers' family home (7961 Octane Lane, Bridgeport) from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The Ashes will be playing. Cunningham Funeral Home is assisting Mike's family during their time of loss.
