Michael Anthony Duda, 64, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025, surrounded by his devoted family.
Born in Dover Township on March 15, 1961, he was the son of the late Michael E. Duda and Sandra Ann (Burlison) Duda-Buss.
Michael was a proud graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1979. He spent his summers baking on the football field, surviving on 3-second sips from the water hose. He was a fullback who ran like a workhorse and was proud of every yard he helped his team earn.
A lifelong resident of the community, he took immense pride in carrying forward the family legacy as the owner of Midtown Dry Cleaners, a beloved neighborhood business he inherited from his father, who first opened its doors in 1973.
Michael was a talented drummer, who played in several bands and carried a love for music throughout his life. He was most at peace outdoors, hunting in the quiet woods, gathering around campfires, and boating at Atwood Lake. You could also find him setting off fireworks with a mischievous grin. He loved to blow things up. Above all, he cherished time with his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy and laughter.
He will be remembered as hardworking, funny, and ornery in the best way. A lively ball of anger with a big heart and a sharp sense of humor. His presence was unforgettable, and his stories, quick wit, and strong spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Michael is survived by his children, Stacha (Mitchell) Derr of Columbus, Hannah (Matthew Furbee) Duda of New Philadelphia, Haley Duda of Dover, and Jeffrey Duda of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Ava, Bryar, William, Sofia, Holden, Casey, and Kade; siblings, Robin (Mike) Bolon of Dover, Kasey (Seth) Bassett of Dover, Kiley (Mitch) Kendall of New Philadelphia and Travis (Hailey) Duda of Dover; stepmother, Johnalee (Duda) Murray of New Philadelphia; uncle, Andy Duda of West Lafayette; aunt, Donna McRobie of Fresno; and his basset hound, Ellie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jeff Duda; and stepfather, Daniel Buss.
The family will greet guests on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory in New Philadelphia.
