In Loving Memory of James Michael Monnot
August 15, 1944 – July 11, 2025
James Michael Monnot-beloved husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and friend-passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025. Born on August 15, 1944, and raised in Gridley, California, Mike lived a life marked by courage, compassion, adventure, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.
After attending college in Chico, California, Mike joined the U.S. Army and served with honor in the 5th Special Forces Group during the Vietnam War. A two-time recipient of the Purple Heart, he embodied bravery and resilience. His service and sacrifice left an indelible legacy of honor that will live on for generations.
Following his military service, Mike began a remarkable career with Morrison-Knudsen, working on major projects around the globe-from Vietnam and South America to Japan, Egypt, and Peru. It was while working on the Alaskan Pipeline that he met the love of his life, his "Sweetheart," Ruby. The two would go on to travel the world together, side by side, building not just projects-but a beautiful life.
Throughout his career, Mike earned the respect and admiration of everyone he encountered. He rose to become Vice President of American Infrastructure, where he was known for his leadership, integrity, and ability to connect with people at every level. Whether you were sweeping the floors or sitting at the boardroom table, if you met Mike Monnot, you felt seen, heard, and valued.
Mike and Ruby raised three wonderful children-Sandra Genter, Paula Noone, and Larry Monnot-instilling in them the same strength, values, and joy for life that defined him.
A true adventurer at heart, Mike loved cars, flying helicopters, swimming, and pushing the limits. He was our family's Evel Knievel-faster, funnier, and stronger than all of us. He could outswim his grandkids, make anyone laugh until they cried, and bring joy and light into every room he entered.
Born Catholic, Mike held a deep faith in the Lord and lived with integrity, humility, and gratitude.
James Michael Monnot leaves behind a legacy of strength, humor, and love. To know him was to be touched by something rare and unforgettable. His memory will live on forever in our hearts.
