Mildred C "Mickie" Canaday

Mildred "Mickie" Canaday, 95, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, in Goose Creek, South Carolina. Born on July 20, 1930, in Champaign, Illinois, she lived a long and meaningful life marked by devotion to her family and faith.

Mickie was the beloved wife of the late Henry W. Canaday. As a dedicated military spouse, she held her family together during her husband's overseas deployments, providing strength and stability through times of uncertainty. Her resilience and unwavering support were the foundation of her household.

In addition to her role as a devoted homemaker, Mickie found fulfillment in her work at H&R Block. She took pride in her job and enjoyed helping others navigate their financial responsibilities with care and precision. She also enjoyed her job at J.C. Penny catching shoplifters. Mickie and Henry spent their last few years together traveling in an RV.

Mickie was a longtime member of Old Saint George Baptist Church, where she found spiritual nourishment and community. Her faith was an enduring source of comfort throughout her life.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Jim Canaday (Cin) of Ladson, SC; Lynn Cooley of San Antonio, TX; and Laura Brown of Tucson, AZ. Mickie's legacy continues through her grandchildren-Michelle Hiatt, Shaun Canaday, Michael Tilman, Jason Tilman, Rachel Cooley, Crystal Odom, Matt Huff, Travis Huff, Tina Choe, Gregory Mount Jr. and Michael Warlock-and great-grandchildren Henry Adolphus, Michael Odom Jr., Whitney Odom, Shanna Huff, Emma Grace Huff, Gauge Ayer, Calla Tilman and Alexa Warlock.

She was preceded in death by her husband Henry W. Canaday; daughters Vallarie Huff and Patty Stidham; and Nancy Ladd.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Quality Care and Wren Hospice in Goose Creek, South Carolina for their compassionate care during Mickie's final days. Mickie's life was one of quiet strength and enduring love. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
