I knew Milly in college, and it was clear that she was a leader. I am sorry for her loss.

I came to know Mildred back in November 2004 when she held a meeting with Will Count Sheriff's Police and neighbors in the Willow Brook and Plum Valley neighborhoods. Thanks to Mildred and her efforts to keep our neighborhoods safe, arrests were made and crime started going down. We all should be very grateful to her efforts and the concern for our safety. Mildred and I became close friends and loved to hold our 'board meetings' at Cone Cottage or Culvers'. Mildred loved ice cream! I loved her laugh and smile. She was always concerned about others and down played any concerns she was having. I was able to share the love of Jesus with her and I am happy that she is now at peace. She is a fighter and now her fight is done. I will miss you terribly! Pat Dabis

Here are other emails I received from friends of Mildred:
From Laurie Borkowski (Neighborhood Watch Communication Director for Water Tower Drive):
So sorry to hear about her passing. We are indebted to Mildred for her concern and action on our community's behalf. She has made a positive difference in our neighborhoods. Thank you for letting us know. We will miss her.

From Suhad Taylor (former Sgt that helped with our Neighborhood Watch):
Thank you so much for letting us know. I was aware that she had some health issues and I am guessing that had something to do with her passing. She was always very kind to me and she deeply cared about the community. She will be missed.

My response to Suhad:
She really liked working with you, Suhad! That's why I wanted you to know. She has been battling pancreas cancer for a couple years along with other things. She was a fighter and I am blessed to have known her.

Response from Rita Archer Smith (Willow Brook neighbor):
Oh wow. I am so very sorry to hear that Mildred passed. She was a real blessing to me, and worked diligently to keep our community safe and beautiful I will not forget her. And I will keep her husband in prayer.
