Mildred Garnett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Burton Funeral Home - Indianola on Feb. 14, 2026.
Mildred Fay Grubb Garnett, age 89, of Friars Point, Mississippi, went to her Heavenly Eternal home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 18, 2026, at The Tupelo Sanctuary, Tupelo, Mississippi.

She was born June 22, 1936, in Slate Springs, Mississippi, to Pearl Morris Grubb and Ralph Edward Grubb. She was raised in Friars Point, Mississippi, where she graduated from high school. After high school, she lived in Louisiana for several years before returning to her beloved Friars Point, where she spent most of her life.

She was a devoted Christian. As a single mother, she firmly believed that God had the perfect plan to carry her and her daughter Kate through any obstacle-and He did. She gave her life to Christ at the age of thirteen and was a devoted member of the Friars Point Methodist Church.

She was a cosmetologist. She obtained this degree at Phillips Community College in Helena, Arkansas. Later, she became an instructor at the cosmetology school.

She was a devoted mother to her daughters, Mildred Kate Garnett, Linda Garnett Douglas (Paul), and Glynna Garnett Richmond (Bill). She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Brenda Hill Grubb. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. She insisted that she was given family pictures of nieces and nephews and their children through three generations. She proudly displayed these family pictures in her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J. D. Garnett; two brothers, Morris Grubb and Carl Grubb; her sister-in-law, Vivian Maupin Grubb; and her dear family friend, Joe Kinion.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 11:00 am, Riverside Cemetery, Friars Point, Mississippi. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola, Mississippi, has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Friars Point Methodist Church, PO Box 245, Friars Point, Mississippi, 38631, or Riverside Cemetery, PO Box 215, Friars Point, Mississippi, 38631.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

So sorry to hear of Baby Doll's passing. She will always be Baby Doll to me. We grew up together as childhood friends. She will be missed and she's in heaven
I know . She endured so much in her lifetime she has to rewarded with life everlasting. I will miss our phone conversations and Christmas cards every year with notes.May she rest in peace. Mary Ann LaVene Cirilli
