Mildred arrived at the Valley of Our Lady Monastery in Wisconsin in 1958 as their first postulant and her ability to speak German was invaluable to the foundresses, who, having just come from Switzerland in 1957, did not yet know English. In addition to trying to help the foundresses understand American language and culture, Mildred willingly embraced the hardships every new monastic foundation faces. The community accepted her in the novitiate; however, she was unable to join the community permanently.
Mildred kept in contact with the community over the course of more than fifty years and she made her final oblation in 2010 as a Cistercian oblate of Valley of Our Lady. In accord with previous arrangements for her interment at the monastery, her remains found their final resting place in the monastery's cemetery next to the Spring Bank Abbey brothers.
