Mildred S. Johnson, affectionately known as "Momma Johnson" to not only her children but to countless members of the community, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on October 20, 1929, Mildred brought light and love to those around her. She had a special fondness for the color pink and found immense joy in her passion for gardening. Mildred could often be found mowing her expansive yard of over an acre twice a week, tending to her four gardens and peanut patch with unwavering dedication. Her flowers, which she lovingly cared for and nurtured, were a source of pride and brought beauty to all who beheld them. Mildred is survived by her daughters, Susan Johnson and Pam Norwood; grandchildren, Kristie (Danny) McDuffie, Haley (Scott) Nelson, Taylor Norwood, Luke Barkley; and great-grandchildren, Emily McDuffie, Parker Nelson and Taylor Blake Nelson. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Emma Sorter; husband, Billy Ray Johnson; sons, Dale Johnson and Timmy Johnson; daughters, Jan Slaton and Judy Irvin; grandchildren, Justin Johnson and Gina Slaton; brothers, Frank Sorter, Tom Sorter, Barney Sorter, John Sorter Jr., Dan Sorter; and sisters, Mary Jo Bodine, Imogene Johnson, Aileen Sorter. The pallbearers for Mildred's service are Jonathan Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Ron Smith, Royce Baucom, Parker Nelson, Scott Nelson and Steven Smith, with honorary pallbearers being her nephews, along with Jody Bonds, Steve Campbell and Danny McDuffie. Mildred S. Johnson's legacy of love, devotion to family, and passion for gardening will forever be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
