Abbeville-A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Vincent Funeral Home, 209 S. Saint Charles St., Abbeville, for Mildred Marie Decuir Trahan, 93, who passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. She will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Reverend Louis Richard officiating the services.
After a career as a switchboard operator and operations manager with the telephone company, Marie was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. One of her favorite activities was line-dancing at various nursing homes with friends. She loved her high school classmates and was very active in their reunions. Maw-maw Marie enjoyed dancing, talking with friends, and cooking "big breakfast" for her grandchildren after their late-night sleepovers. Her breakfasts, rice and gravies, brownies, and oatmeal cakes were legendary. She cherished talking on the telephone and spending time with her cousins, friends, children, grandchildren, and God-children.
Marie is survived by her sons, Brent Trahan and his wife Kathy, and Byron Trahan and his wife Angela; grandchildren, Jeremy, Jennifer, Benjamin, Nicole, Sloan, and Wyatt; and great grandchildren, Declan, Scotlyn, Christian, Caroline, Jillian, Juliana, and J. W.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Pierre Rodney Trahan; daughter, Lisa Faciane; parents, Stella Durr Decuir and Robert "Bud" Decuir; sister, Nora Lee; brothers, Rene, Leroy, and Milton; and grandson, Kyle.
