Mildred Ortmeier 97, of Hoven, SD, passed away Tuesday December 2, 2025, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD.

Millie was born to Budd and Anna (Carl) Adkins on October 14, 1928. She was raised on a farm south of Rockham, SD. She went to country grade school and then boarding school at Miller High School, Miller, SD, graduating in 1946. After graduation she went to General Beadle College in Madison, SD. She then taught at a rural grade school for one year and then worked for Sears Catalog in Redfield, SD.

Millie met Bernard (Barney) Ortmeier at a baseball game, where he was one of the players. They were married on October 11, 1948, in Polo, SD. They then moved to Hoven where they made their home and raised their family of 8 children. She, along with her husband, were the City of Hoven Finance Officers for 30 years. She also volunteered at the St. Anthony school library for 15 years. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and Altar Society. She and Barney enjoyed traveling together until the time of his death in 1995. Millie moved to Sioux Falls in 2020 and lived in independent living until the time of her death.

Millie enjoyed and was a great bowler for over 30 years. She loved watching all sports, especially baseball, and was a true Twins fan. For many years, she loved watching Hoven Greyhound sports and was proud to be a fan of the year. She also had years of watching her children and her grandchildren in their sports. She loved playing cards and bridge throughout her life, with her friends in Hoven, her family and later with new friends in Sioux Falls. She was a fun partner, and her wit and style entertained us all. Most important was the time she spent with her family. She had a way of connecting with each of us and each of her many grandchildren. The great grandkids especially enjoyed the stories she told of how she grew up compared to today. She was special to each one of us and will be truly missed.

Millie's funeral will be livestreamed at the Lien Family Funeral Care Facebook page.

Millie is survived by her 8 children. Karen (Jerry) Hoven of Aberdeen, SD, Linda (Doug) Fields and Evie (Rob) Howe of Sioux Falls, SD, Ed (Mari) Ortmeier of Norfolk, NE, Richard (Mary) Ortmeier of Peyton, CO, Bette (Raul) Chavez of El Paso TX, Chuck (Mary) Ortmeier of Wentworth SD, and Donna (Jerad) Prather of Crooks SD; 27 grandchildren; 61 great grandchildren; and 4 step grandchildren with 11 step great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
