Mildred "Millie" Spencer, age 91, died Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community in Meadville, PA.
Millie was born December 21, 1932, the daughter of Wilbur J. and Eleanor (Hornell) Littell. She was a graduate (1950) of Hillside Senior High School, Hillside, New Jersey; and Berkley Community College, East Orange, NJ. She worked in the office of the Newark District Attorney.
She married the Rev. Jack E. Spencer, of Dubois, PA, March 21, 1953, and moved with him to Meadville, PA as he began his ministry as Associate Minister at Stone United Methodist Church. The couple served in ministry together at United Methodist Churches in Erie, Titusville, and Warren, PA. When Jack was appointed District Superintendent she worked as the District Secretary.
Millie was a consummate hostess and skilled artist throughout her life. She was actively involved with the starting of pre-schools in two churches. She also served as Chairperson of the Board of Wesbury.
Millie and Jack raised two children: Gregory, a pastor of The United Methodist Church, and Kimberly, Professor of History, and advisor/counselor in social service agencies.
She was preceded in death by husband Jack; parents Wilbur and Eleanor; sister Eleanor (Littell) Felter and her husband Clifford; son-in-law, Russell Lenahan; and Brother-in-law, the Rev. Mearl Henley.
Survivors include: son, the Rev. Greg Spencer and his wife Christine; their sons Benjamin and Jackson (wife Margaret); daughter, Kimberly and her sons: Russell, Paul, and David Lenahan; Sister-in-law, Dee Ann Henley; Nieces and Nephews: Scott & Becky Felter, Barb & Ray Liptak; The Rev. Dennis & Kristine Henley; Don & Nancy Henley; Joyce & Ron White.
SERVICES: A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday October 4, 2024, in the Barco Chapel at Wesbury. Private Burial will be at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to ROSE AND WAID FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
