Emma Mildred Gurley Stewart, surrounded by family, took her last breath on earth and ran rejoicing into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, November 23, 2025.

She was born on July 5, 1925, to Ola Alford Gurley. In her 100 years of life, she overcame many hardships and also experienced much joy and happiness. She was a woman of great faith. Her life was devoted to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, her loving family and to teaching her beloved Golden Rule Sunday School Class for 69 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John Thomas Stewart.

Surviving are her children, Teresa (Sam) Glenn, and Mark (Grace) Stewart; grandchildren, Anna (Chili) Childers, Samuel (Lauren) Glenn, and Hannah Stewart; great grandchildren, Hope Vatakis, Tanner Vatakis, Lucy Glenn, Hank Glenn, Huck Glenn, and Great great grandchild, Cullen Munn. She was looking forward to the birth of her great-great granddaughter, Emma James Turner in early 2026.

The family would like to express deep appreciation to JoAnn White, and to Danielle Alewine and Hospice of the Upstate for their kindness and loving care over the last few years.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 29, 2025, from 1:00-1:45 pm at Oakwood Baptist Church. The service will begin at 2:00 pm with Rev. Guy Roberts officiating. A private burial will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
