Mildred Coleman Wilkerson, 75, of Finchley, Virginia died February 1, 2010. She was born June 2, 1934, in Jeffries Virginia, the daughter of Cicero and Beadie Coleman, and was a graduate of Clarksville High School. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 54 years, James Woodrow Wilkerson, her parents, brothers Kirby Coleman, Harold Coleman, Al Coleman, Thurmond Coleman, Aubrey Coleman, and sister Charlene Coleman Bowen. Mildred is survived by her children Jim Wilkerson, Mike Wilkerson, Andy Wilkerson, and Patricia Wilkerson; daughters-in-law Connie Wilkerson and Rita Wilkerson, and Denise Wilkerson, her seven grandchildren, Ashley W. Baird and husband Brian, Kerry Wilkerson, Jennie Hewitt and husband Trey, Kevin Hartman, Aubrey Wilkerson, Eileen Wilkerson, Anna Claire Wilkerson; great-grand child, Parker Coleman Baird; and her numerous nephews and nieces and extended family members. She worked for the Mecklenburg County School System as a Teacher's Aid, The County Commissioner of Revenue, and dutifully served the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office for over 25 years as Administrative Assistant to the sheriff, before retiring in 1999. Mildred was a faithful member of Nelson Baptist Church. Over their 54 years of marriage she served with her husband to support numerous community organizations to include the Mecklenburg County Rescue Squad as a founding member of the Ladies Auxiliary, the American Red Cross, and the Multi-Disciplinary Team. The family is gathering at Jim's home from Wednesday through Saturday, and friends are welcome to visit them there. They will receive friends at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Friday February 5th, 2010. Services will be held at Nelson Baptist Church on Saturday February 6th, 2010 at 2:00 PM. Internment will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Nelson Baptist Church and Halifax Regional Hospice.
