Millard Douglas Porter

Millard Douglas "Buddy" Porter, age 77, of Woodville, FL, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 29, 2022. Buddy was born to John Reddin Porter, Jr., and Ruby Irene (Raines) Porter on September 16, 1944, in Jackson County, FL.

Buddy is survived by his children Trenda McPherson (Robert) and Brenda Porter Lovett, and Bradley Porter (Kimberly); grandchildren Holly Hill (Adam), Jessica Lopez (Alejandro), Dixie Sumner (Kyle), Harold "Jimmy" McPherson (Amber), Lance Tucker Lovett, and Cole Porter; great-grandchildren, Alec Hill, Amethyst McPherson, and Dawson Sumner; brother Charles Porter, and sister Debra Cricco (Jeff), as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, sister Carolyn Butler and her husband Charles "Chuck" Butler, sister Regina Sims and her husband William "Billy" Sims, and grandchildren Amanda Marie Dodson, Robert "Robby" McPherson, III, and Lauren Elaine Porter.

After joining the U.S. Army, he married Nancy Elaine Bennett on January 7, 1963. They were blessed with three children during their marriage. He and his family traveled across the southeast as he mastered his trade by working as a gas line plumber and construction worker. His young family settled in Tallahassee in the fall of 1971. He later started his own business, Porter Drywall, where he worked until he retired.

Buddy loved fishing and his family and friends. Each of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He went fishing as often as he could, including in his final days. When he wasn't on the water, he could typically be found visiting with family and friends or mentoring people recovering from alcoholism or addiction. His involvement in Alcoholics Anonymous not only changed his life, it offered him an opportunity to fellowship with and be a resource to others.

He knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a kind and giving father and friend. Everyone who knew Buddy, loved him. He will be greatly missed.

Services to honor his life will be held at 10:00am, Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Bevis Funeral Home, 200 John Knox Road, Tallahassee, FL, followed by interment at 12:00pm at Tallahassee National Cemetery, 5015 Apalachee Pkwy, Tallahassee, FL.

The family appreciates all of the messages, calls, and outpouring of love that has been shown and asks for your continued thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.

Todd Walquist, of Bevis Funeral Home (850-385-2193 or www.bevisfh.com), is assisting the family with the arrangements.

What can i say about buddy . He was one of the greatest men I've ever had the pleasure of meeting, the father I never had . I've never seen anyone more proud of his family as he . His love ,passion for family, fishing and friends will be undoubtedly missed but all the beautiful memories and story's will remain for an eternity. You rest high on that mountain at God's side watching over us all . Until we meet again my old friend love you buddy!
