Millicent Ann Docking, age 90, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, at Fox Run in Novi, Michigan. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, she leaves behind a legacy of faith, perseverance, and quiet strength.
Born on April 15, 1935, to William and Annie (Paul) Kelynack, Millie was raised with deep roots in compassion and service. Her Cornish heritage remained close to her heart, especially through the cherished tradition of British tea-a ritual she lovingly shared with family and friends throughout her life.
Millicent studied nursing at the Henry Ford School of Nursing and Hygiene, later Henry Ford College, and began her career as a Registered Nurse, a vocation that perfectly reflected her kind and caring spirit. Yet, when her children were born, she selflessly stepped away from her profession to devote herself entirely to her family. Her unwavering love and presence shaped the lives of her children and grandchildren in profound and lasting ways.
In 1957, Millie married William "Bob" Docking, the love of her life. Their nearly 70-year marriage was a true partnership built on mutual support and deep affection. Millie stood by Bob throughout his distinguished career in education, offering strength and encouragement behind the scenes as he served others.
Together, they raised three children: Pam Docking Johnson, Jeff (Elizabeth) Docking, and Tim (Julia) Docking. Her role as a grandmother brought her immense joy, and her legacy continues in the lives of her 11 grandchildren-Courtney Johnson-Norland, Ben Johnson, Tim Johnson, Bonnie Johnson, Jacob Docking, Carter Docking, Taylor Docking, Julianna Docking, Ethan Docking, Luca Docking, and Meryl Docking-and her 13 great-grandchildren.
A woman of deep faith, Millie was a dedicated member of her church and especially treasured her work with Stephen Ministries, where she offered comfort and companionship to those in need.
Millie loved her summers spent at their cherished cottage in Bay View, Michigan. There, she found peace among the trees and joy in the educational programs she and Bob organized and attended.
Diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis on her 40th birthday, Millie faced 50 years of physical challenges with remarkable grace. She never complained and never let it dim her warmth. Her strength and resilience were hallmarks of the generation she so proudly represented.
Millicent was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bob, and her brother Paul Kelynack. She will be deeply missed by her family, her church community, and the many friends whose lives she touched with her kindness, her courage, and her unwavering spirit.
A celebration of her life will be held at Bay View later this summer at a date to be determined.
Memorial gifts can be sent to Cass Community Social Services.
