Milton Lopez Obituary

Milton James Lopez Jr., lovingly known as Corky by his family, passed away on September 27, 2025, at the age of 63 in Beaumont, Texas. He was the youngest son of Milton James Lopez Sr. and Ann Broussard Lopez, and was born on September 21, 1962, in Beaumont, Texas.

In the summer of 1972, Milton Sr. and Ann moved with their young children, Peggy and Corky, to Crystal Beach, Texas. Here Corky became a proud football player and spirited classmate at High Island High School, where he went to the state championships and lettered in football, and graduated in 1981. He carried that same energy into a long and dedicated career with the Texas Department of Transportation. For over 30 years Milton served his community, most notably as a pilot of the Bolivar-Galveston ferry-a role he cherished and performed with pride and a strong work ethic.

Milton lived most of his adult life in Galveston, Texas. He was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys and watched whether they were winning or losing. He excelled at cycling, participating in long distance races in his 20s and 30s. He enjoyed photography and always had a nice new camera. He took an interest in electronics and always had the latest gadgets and a surplus of speakers. He loved action and horror movies and was a connoisseur of rock music played at full volume. 70s and 80s rock and roll were his favorite, and he enjoyed attending concerts with his family and friends. His TV and music were always loud, just like his laughter and jokes. Corky was known and appreciated for his quick wit and for his fun personality.

Corky was deeply devoted to his family, carrying the spirit of his father in everything he did. He idolized his big brother Jim from whom he gained his lifelong appreciation for music. And he enjoyed the care and company of his two loving sisters, Cindy and Peggy. He was the fun uncle to many. And he was a dependable and loyal friend. His memory will live on in the stories, sounds, and love he shared with all who knew him. And his legacy is one of loyalty, laughter, and a life lived out loud.

Survivors include sister, Peggy Knoblock and her husband, Rick; nephew, Damian Giglio and his wife, Nicole; nieces, Delia, Ellie, and Netty Giglio and Ashley Nardiello and her husband, Chris; great-nieces, Riki Nardiello, Erin and Jenna Gonzales and Scarlett Giglio; great-nephews, Keenan Nardiello and Asher Giglio and great-great-niece, Saleigha Flores.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Stephen James Lopez, sister, Cindy Giglio; brother, James Gerard Lopez; and niece, Katrina Gonzales.

The Lopez and Giglio families would like to express their gratitude to Reverend Joseph Kattakkara, Focused Care at Summer Place, and Harbor Hospice for the loving care provided to Milton during his illness.
