Milton Julian (Bunky) Schul, 95, of
Berlin, Maryland passed away on November 26, 2025 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake, Salisbury, MD
Bunky was born December 8, 1929 to Elizabeth (née Packer Smith) Schul in Baltimore, MD. He was adopted by Joseph Schul after Joseph married Elizabeth.
Bunky was a lifelong learner and teacher. He completed his high school education at St. Paul School for Boys in Baltimore. He joined the US Army in 1952 and graduated from Officer Candidate School earning his commission. He served in the Chemical Corp in Eastern France through1956. Bunky received a Bachelors Degree in Education from Towson State and a Masters Degree in Education at The Johns Hopkins University.
Bunky began his career as an elementary school teacher In Baltimore County. He was hired by the Bendix Corporation where he was trained in in computer programming. That career took him to P.H. Glatfelter Paper company in Spring Grove Pennsylvania and RCA computers in Arlington Virginia. He returned to the Army as a civilian employee in 1970 where he combined his education background and computer skills in a training role. He retired from Civil Service in 1998.
In 1955 Bunky married the love of his life Margaret in England. In their six plus decades together they explored the world near and far making new friends everywhere they went. In that time they raised four children together. As those children grew and had families of their own Margaret and Bunky treasured visits with their children and eventually their grandchildren too. The Episcopal Church was a core part of their lives. Bunky served as a Sunday school teacher, director of religious education, youth group leader, vestryperson and lay reader. Many of their closest friendships were made at church.
Bunky was proud of his Eastern Shore roots. In particular he loved Assateague Island. From the late 1960s forward the one Schul family vehicle always had four wheel drive so he could take the family "down the beach". His love of Assateague continues through his children and grandchildren.
Other passions included cooking, gardening, travel and photographing wildflowers. Bunky was a wonderful storyteller and writer and his writing often included fun little whimsical sketches that he often named. His grandchildren particularly loved the Santa stories with these sketches that he would send to them in their early years.
The family is very grateful for all of Bunky's care providers that allowed him to live out his final days at home, including the Visiting Angels (especially Sonia) and Coastal Hospice. Special thanks to daughter Robin for her tireless efforts and love as his primary care giver for the last few years.
