Minerva's favorite Bible Verse: 'For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future with hope.' Jeremiah 29:11
Minerva Haugabrooks, ne Barrett, born in 1955, was the third of five children to Denzil and Icilyn Barrett. Love was a guiding force throughout her life, carrying her from a young age as she journeyed with her Lord. Known for her friendliness and warmth, she was a lively participant in her childhood community and church. In her formative years, Minerva attended Salt Spring All-Age School and earned a scholarship to Montego Bay High School. After high school, she dedicated a year to teaching secondary courses at Harrison Memorial High School before moving to the United States in 1975 to attend Andrews University.
After she graduated in 1979 with a BSD in Nutrition and Dietetics, she relocated to Orlando, Florida, where she met and married her lifelong love and dear friend, Charles Haugabrooks in 1980. Together, they raised three children: Sherrard Abdul, Ezra Charles, and Esther Marie. In addition to her duties as a family woman, she pursued higher education, earning a Master of Science in Health Science from the University of Central Florida and a doctorate in Public Health from Walden University.
Minervas life was a testament to her faith. She was a Renaissance womana devoted wife, supportive mother, lifelong learner, and businesswoman. In her early carrier as a young mother, she ran her own consulting firm. She later became a college professor while actively participating in various nutrition professional societies. Throughout her career, Minerva also remained committed to service to her church and community. She was a dedicated member and elder at Mt. Olive Seventh-day Adventist Church of Apopka, FL.
Minerva embodied the spirit of lifelong learning, continually seeking knowledge and growth. Her love for God, family, plants, sunsets, travel, and food reflected a woman who cherished lifes simple pleasures. Her gentle spirit and keen observations made her a trusted friend and loyal wife. Her radiant smile and unwavering faith in God touched many lives. She will be dearly missed but forever remain in our hearts. Her legacy of love, faith, and learning continues to inspire us.
Minerva leaves behind her husband, children, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear friends and church family.
Rest in Peace.
