Minerva F. Sanchez beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed away on August 14, 2022 at her home in Uvalde at the age of 86. She was born to Victoria (Lara) Flores and Andres Flores in Uvalde at their residence on Calera Street on May 25, 1936.
She attended Uvalde public school until the sixth grade. Minerva's encounter with medical challenges throughout her life would continue but she was mentally and physically strong and with her prayers of faith always loving the Lord with friends and family she persevered.
.
She married Manuel H. Sanchez on October 23, 1954 and had three children. They moved to the Texas Panhandle and lived in Memphis, Texas on a farm and returned back to Uvalde in 1967. In the summer of 1970, the family travelled to Carlton, Oregon for migrant work harvesting strawberries, boysenberries, cherries and other crops and returned to Uvalde by the end of the summer. Later, Minerva did residential housecleaning in Uvalde and she worked at Sacred Heart Church for many years as a teacher aide and CCD instructor where her grandchildren attended school. Many of her students (now grown up) would recognize her when they saw her in Uvalde.
Although she did not drive, Minerva got around with the help of family and friends. Minerva was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Uvalde and was an active member of the Holy Name Society, La Vela, the Guadalupanas, Crusillistas, St Vincent de Paul Society to name a few. Her travels out of state included Dayton, Oregon; New Orleans; Orlando; San Jose, California; and Panama City, Panama. She was fond of chickens and her house is full of mementos received lovingly from family and friends. Minerva was the happiest when she was surrounded by family and friends; her warm smile and laughter will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her son Juan Sanchez from Garland; daughters Carolina Sanchez and Yolanda Ortiz and husband Hector all from Uvalde. One brother, Luis Sanchez and wife Estella from Uvalde; and one sister, Rosa Reyes from Uvalde. Three grandchildren, Keyna Ortiz and husband Omar from Uvalde; Misti Rios and husband Osvaldo from Uvalde; and Hector Ortiz Jr and wife Laura from San Antonio. Four great grandchildren, Ycela Ortiz, Hector Ortiz III, Brandon Ortiz and Alyza Ortiz and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, special recognition to her providers: Maria Puente, Maria Herrera, Angelica Campos, and the family of the late Elsa Reyna, and also the Uvalde Hospital Hospice.
Minerva was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers Epifanio Flores and Ruben Flores; and sisters Luz Flores and Jesusita S. Fernandez.
