Minnie Bennett Obituary

Published by Perry Funeral Home - Newark on Aug. 12, 2014.
Minnie was born on September 25, 1910 to William and Alder Bennett in Augusta, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her six siblings; James, Jimmy, Anne, Susie, Eva and one sibling deceased shortly after birth. Minnie's early education was in Augusta, Georgia. She was married, divorced and widowed twice. In the early 1940's she traveled between Georgia and New Jersey to visit family. During the mid 1940's she returned to New Jersey briefly before moving to New York. There she continued her education to become a private duty LPN. She worked proudly in her profession until her retirement in the late 1970's. She returned to New Jersey to live with family until 1989, then went to Georgia to reside with her niece. In 2006, she returned to New Jersey and became a resident of East Orange, where she resided until her passing. Even at the age of 103, Minnie remained an independent woman. She lived in her own apartment where she continued to cook and clean until her heath recently began to fail. Aunt Minnie loved to shop at Walmart! She could be seen scooting around Walmart almost running people over and trying to buy the entire store. Minnie always shared many amazing family stories and history. She was an excellent cook and always wanted to feed everyone. Her favorite food to cook and share was mac and cheese. She was the most loving and beloved member of our family as well as being the family matriarch. Even though she had no children of her own, she made all of her nieces and nephews her children. She took care of all of us, changed most of our diapers, and nursed us when were sick. Minnie will be remembered for her fierce independence, strong willed personality, her love of watching and cheering at wrestling on TV, her cooking, her passion for being sure that she looked good before leaving home, her generous heart, and most of all her deep love for her family. Minnie Belle Bennett, affectionately known to most as "Aunt Minnie" departed this life peacefully on August 12, 2014. She leaves to cherish her memory: her nieces, nephews, and cousins, Evelyn, Benjamin, Phyllis, Shannon, Dana, Kevin H., Antoinette, Loretta, Debbie T., Julie, Vicky, Cindy, Janice, Aaron, Aiden, Alex, Michael, Dorian, Richard, Marion, including her extended Hill, Terry and Zardis families, plus a host of other relatives, god-children and friends.
