Miranda Dawn Wright, 47, of Olney, Texas, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024 in Wichita Falls, Texas after a courageous, but brief battle with cancer. Miranda was born in Lubbock, Texas on March 25, 1977, to Rory Dwaine Thomas and Sharon Lee Kerby Thomas.
Miranda enlisted in the United States Army in 1997 to begin her public service career. She continued her public service in law enforcement and emergency medical services, working for several agencies throughout her 20-year career.
She found her permanent home in Olney and an extended family within the Olney Police Department and Olney EMS. Miranda served the citizens of Olney and Young County for a combined 20 years. Most of her time was spent with loyal K9s: K9 Fox (Olney Police Department), K9 Sam (Young County Sheriff's Office), and K9 Bond, her last partner with the Olney Police Department.
In her free time, Miranda enjoyed training with K9 Bond and her local training group, lovingly dubbed the K9 Kult. She spent a good portion of time traveling with her beloved partner, Dustin, and good friends to various destinations, and going on Ghost Tours.
Miranda was notorious for collecting hobbies, though her favorite was always photography. More often than not, Miranda had a witty or sarcastic comeback ready to give anyone who deserved it, which was just about everyone. Her spirit animal was most definitely a squirrel, though she would tell you otherwise.
Miranda's greatest pride was in her daughters, Christine and Chandra. She took great enjoyment in watching the girls excel as they navigated life. She is survived by her partner, Dustin Heard and his son Quinn and daughter Hannah, her daughters Chandra Wright and Christine Hiatt and Christine's partner, Nick Lindley, her grand-daughter Akira Lindley, her father and stepmother, Rory Dwaine Thomas and Barbara Thomas, her brother Jordan Thomas, aunts Tammy Love and Karen Mullins, stepdaughter Chasidy McCullough, and cousin Chris Thompson. She will be mourned by her beloved best friends Hailey Calcote, Katie and Derek Carls, and many more family and friends.
Miranda was preceded in death by her mother, Sharon Lee Kerby Thomas, her grandmother Ophelia Kerby, and cousin Tyler Thompson.
Public Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Lunn Funeral Home in Olney. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Olney, Texas. The private graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Littlefield Memorial Park Cemetery, in Littlefield, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Project K-9 Hero, 309 Bear Pen Rd., Whitwell, Tennessee 37397.
