CONCORD – Mitchell "Mitch" Patrick Henley, 75, of Concord, formerly of Auburn, passed away peacefully at the Harris Hill Center in Concord on Sunday, November 2, 2025.
He was born on June 22, 1950, in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, son of the late William "Bill" and Mildred "Maxine" (Hess) Henley. Mitch attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and later earned his degree in Business Studies in Business Administration from what was then New Hampshire College (now Southern New Hampshire University) in 1990.
Mitch proudly served his country in the United States Army, entering active duty in 1967, and separating in 1987. He retired as a Sergeant First Class (E-7) after twenty years of dedicated service. Mitch's final Army posting brought him to New Hampshire, a place he grew to love and decided to call home after his retirement.
Combining his craftsmanship and business acumen, Mitch became the owner and operator of Chaps & Chains, a leathercraft and jewelry store he founded in 1995 in Auburn, New Hampshire. His creativity extended far beyond his business; he also enjoyed woodworking, model making, and electronics. A lifelong animal lover, Mitch always had pets as part of his family and developed a special fondness for his many German Shepherds over the years.
Those who knew Mitch will remember his social nature, quick wit, and generous spirit. He was always ready with a joke or story, eager to connect with others, and involved in a wide range of interests and community activities throughout his life. He was proud of his Scottish heritage and found joy in celebrating and sharing that part of his identity.
In addition to his parents, Mitchell was predeceased by his brother, Michael "Mike" Henley; and his many beloved canine companions that he had throughout the years.
He is survived by his children, Elizabeth "Liz" Henley and her partner, Joe Villarreal of Pembroke and Benjamin "Ben" Henley and his wife, Katherine "Katy" of Pembroke; his grandchildren, Fiona Santamaria, Quinn Henley and Anthony Henley; his brother, Anthony "Tony" Henley and his wife, Peggy of Kansas City, Missouri; his sister-in-law, Linda Henley of Tehachapi, California; and his two nieces and one nephew.
A graveside service will be held in the Spring of 2026 at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH 03303.
