Mitzi O Green Fields, age 63, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2016. Born on August 7, 1952 in Hopkinsville, KY, she was the daughter of late Harvey Oscar Green and Dolly Henrietta (Armstrong) Green. She graduated from Upper Arlington High School, Columbus, OH in 1970 and The Ohio State University, College of Allied Medicine in 1975. She lived in Hopkinsville, KY, Paris, France, Augusta, GA, Sierra Vista/Ft. Huachuca, AZ, Upper Arlington, OH, Carey, NC, Dubuque, IA, Reno, NV, Kemblesville, PA, Newark, DE, Elkton, MD and Rising Sun, MD. In 2014, she retired from Cecil County Public Library system as Branch Manager in Rising Sun, MD. Previously trained as a Medical Technologist, she worked in various hospitals, including, The Ohio State University Hospital, Duke University, Dubuque, Washoe County Medical Center in Reno, and Christiana Care in Newark, DE. Mitzi was a dog lover, line dancer, quilter, cross stitchery, basket maker, avid reader, pottery collector, and world traveler. She was a long time member of various book groups. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and great aunt. She is survived by her husband, Richard Sweeney of Rising Sun, MD; son, Andrew Bernard Fields and his partner, Emily Earnest, of West Grove, PA; daughter, Amanda Green Fields McWilliams and her husband, Joseph McWilliams, of Salisbury, MD; sisters, Gretchen Green and her husband Stanley Kronenberger of Columbus, OH, and Theresa Green Mayer and her husband, Jim, of Yellow Springs, OH; brother, Harvey Oscar Green II and his partner, Pat Currie, of Columbus, OH; step daughters, Lisa Sweeney of Egg Harbor Twp., NJ and Anne Sweeney and her companion Sam Moss of Linwood, NJ; grandchildren, Alexander Linden Fields, and Daniel Houston McWilliams; and former husband, Stephen Fields. She is also survived by nephews, Brian Mayer, his wife, Emilie, and Kevin Mayer; and grandniece, Anastasia Sophia Mayer. Mitzi's family would like to extend their thanks to the Union Hospital and Amedisys Hospice staff. Mitzi asks that if you have ever had heartburn, please follow up with your family physician, and ask to have an upper endoscopy for early detection of esophageal cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held at 7PM, on Friday, February 26, 2016 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 South Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD 21911. Family and friends may visit from 5-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to "Esophageal Cancer Awareness Association" sent in c/o the funeral home.

Given that this is five years after the fact, I don't know that anyone will see it but I'm going to leave this message anyway. I worked with Mitzi at the Cecil County Pubic Library in the 90's. Those were good times. Mitzi was a wonderful, sweet, kind person. Tremendous to work with. I looked her up recently to see if she had a Facebook page, as I have been trying to reconnect with some of my CCPL friends and was shocked to find not her Facebook page but her obituary instead. So sad. Mitzi, I loved working with you back in the mid/late 90's. They were wonderful times. Thank you for being so kind and easy to work with.
