Modene Dell Fincher, 92, was called home to our Lord on October 23, 2025. She was born October 5, 1933 in Cameron, Texas to Leroy Wheeler and Mildred Baskin Wheeler and she will be buried at Walkers Creek Cemetery near Cameron.
Modene graduated from Yoe High School and Durhams Business College. She then worked 7 years at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Cameron, where she met her husband, Millard Fincher, who was also working there and had just been discharged from the Army after the Korean War. They married on March 28, 1953. After working for a few years, she became a stay-at-home mother to their three children, Melinda Kay, David Leroy and Rodney Hayes. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church and the Koinonia Sunday School Class in Cameron.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Millard, and her son David. She is survived by her children: daughter, Melinda; son Rodney and wife Rhonda; David's wife, Ramona; her 7 grandchildren: Laura Leal (Andrew); Jessica Hopfenspirger, Alyssa Pitts (Ty), Haley Fincher (Brian Gonzales), Kaylin Fincher (Jason Sanchez), Trevor Fincher and Kendall Fincher (Britney); her 15 great-grandchildren; her sister Rita Buff of Rosharon, Texas and many dear nieces and nephews.
Modene enjoyed seeing all of her family at get togethers and loved cooking for them. She loved her family dearly and nothing gave her more joy than spoiling her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She wanted everyone to know that she believed in Jesus and loved him. She knew that he is the pathway to God and Heaven
. A celebration of Modene's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.
