Moe Freid Obituary

Published by Weed Corley Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services - North on Aug. 19, 2017.
Moe Freid, 76, died August 19th, 2017 in Austin, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. He was born, May 8th, 1941 in Brooklyn, New York. He was a 1959 graduate of Far Rockaway High school in Far Rockaway, New York. Moe was the son of the late Belle and Jack Freid. He was predeceased by his brother Richard Freid and his sister Judy Stearns. Moe is survived by his wife and best friend Renate Freid; son Jim Freid (Kathy Smith) of Leander, Texas; and daughter Suzanne Freid (Don Carper) of Austin, Texas. He has 7 beautiful grandchildren: Billy, Eleanor, Ava, Drew, Lillian, Derek, and Josephine all who he adored, as well as a sister Diana Freid (Jon) of Saugerties, New York. Moe leaves behind many nieces, nephews and beloved friends who he considered part of his family. Moe was a member of the U. S. Army, stationed in Ft. Bliss, where he developed his love of Texas. In 1963 he married the love of his life Renate Freid. He and his family settled in Manchaca, Texas in 1974, after moving from East Meadow, New York. He was a successful entrepreneur, starting Moe Freid Marble and Granite in 1976. Moe was as unique as his trademark beret and overalls; utilizing his humor and personal touch with everyone, and anyone he met. He leaves his creative fingerprints on many of the historic structures and residences in Central Texas. Moe was a selfless man who always put others first. He was a beloved member of the community, and found pure joy in the small things in life like working his ranch and taking care of his many beloved dogs, cattle and other animals. He will be greatly missed by all. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the many friends that stood by them over the last three weeks while Moe was hospitalized. Your love and support was truly felt. Our sincere thanks to the dedicated nursing staff at Seton Medical Center ICU who took care of Moe with love and compassion. We are forever grateful. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home; 3125 North Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas 78705 with Chaplin Kye Flannery, M.A., MDiv. officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Austin Humane Society.

I just found out and I'm so sorry to hear about Moe's passing. I wish I would have stopped in to say "Hi" the last time I was there. He always made me laugh with his wit and charm and he will be missed greatly. Heartfelt condolences and prayers for Renate and family (including his work family).

Moe Fried... It is people like you who pave the way for people who want to attempt the stone industry. You were a true craftsman of stone. You will forever leave a mark in the stone industry for Texas and one to remember. Gonna miss you buddy.

How sad it is to lose such a great friend. I just found out and I am sick to my stomach. I remember once asking Moe what his secrete to a long and successful marriage was. He said it's simple.. When you wake up, quietly go to the bathroom, stick you foot into the commode and pee down your leg. Making sure not to wake the missus. That's it.. The rest is easy.

You were one of the great ones.

Your Pal,

My dear friend Moe:

Moe was a great many things to many people. He was a mentor, a friend, a teacher, a leader, an inventor, a mason, a stone man, a partner, a fly fisherman, a businessman, an expert marksmen, a husband and a father. He was to me as I described him on his 70th birthday "a True Renaissance Man!" He truly lived his life to its fullest. His love for his family, friends, hunting, dogs, cattle, the stone business and haying showed through in his everyday life. His sense of humor knew no bounds (as many of you well know). Our hearts and thought felt prayers are with Renate, Jim, Susanne and all the family during this sad time. Moe was my friend and will be missed.

With Love,
Matt and Melissa Young

I'm very sorry to hear this. Have been wondering why there's been no reply
to several e'mails sent to him asking how he was getting along with the leg
infection. He'd invited me and a friend down to hunt hogs last year then I got sick
and about the same time he had the knee put in that became infected. I've been
wanting to come down this fall and meet Moe. Don't look like we'll get to now.
Best wishes to everyone in the time of grief.
