Moira Little Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 28, 2026.
Moira Hanlon Little, a retired PG county school teacher, passed away on Friday, March 20. She was born in Richmond Heights, Missouri, and moved to the Washington D.C. area with her family in 1945. She attended St. Michael's Catholic School and The Academy of the Holy Names in Silver Spring, and then obtained her Bachelor's Degree from The University of Maryland, College Park.

For two years after college she taught at the American School at the Kitzingen Army Base in Kitzingen, Germany. When she returned to the States, she spent her career teaching in Prince George's County, with a long tenure at Mt. Rainier Junior High School and then at Hyattsville Middle School. Early in her career she met her husband, Alfred Little. They were married in 1967 until his passing in 2006.

For many years she lived on Bennington Drive in Silver Spring. She briefly moved to Crofton and Sarasota, Fl before ending up back in Silver Spring. She loved being active and outdoors. She spent many happy days tending her gardens, and watching the birds in her yard. An avid traveller, she journeyed extensively throughout the US, Europe and South America, with her husband, family and friends.

For the last four years, Moira was lovingly cared for at the Maple Ridge Memory Care Home in Rockville, MD.

She was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Joseph Hanlon, her husband Alfred Little, her sister Margaret Hanlon, brothers John Hanlon and Larry Hanlon, and nephew Michael Hanlon.

She is survived by her sister, Judy Cleaver, step-son Kevin Little, step-daughter Diane Little, step-granddaughter Christi Schroader Miller, Brother-in-law Sherwin Little (Maryann Tatman), numerous nieces and nephews, and many cherished lifelong friends.
