Molly DeWitt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dettling Funeral Home on Jul. 8, 2025.
Molly Claire DeWitt, age 9, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Friday, the 4th of July 2025.
Molly was born on the 10th of June 2016, in Houston, and in her short time on Earth, she lived with extraordinary heart, color, and compassion.
Molly had a heart as expansive as her imagination. From a young age, she was drawn to those on the margins-refugees, kids who felt different, people without homes. Her instinct was always to notice, to care, and to extend kindness. She gave freely of her time, her heart, and even her belongings, and she taught those around her what it meant to love without hesitation.
Molly was also endlessly creative-a vibrant, artistic spirit who loved to draw and design like her mom, dance with abandon, and dream up stories and ideas. A voracious reader, she could often be found lost in books that matched the depth of her imagination. She was insatiably curious, always eager to learn more and understand how the world worked-its people, its beauty, and even its heartbreak. She found joy in movement too-playing soccer, running freely, and sharing in the energy of sport and friendship.
She was spunky and strong-willed, just like her father-unafraid to speak her mind or stand her ground, always with that spark that made her unmistakably Molly. She lived with a kind of divine certitude-a confidence rooted in her deep and unwavering faith in God. It was this faith that shaped her heart and guided the way she loved others-with sincerity, generosity, and grace beyond her years-a faith she first saw modeled in her sister Annie, and then made her own.
Molly was radiant-stunning in a way that went far beyond appearance. Her beauty wasn't just seen; it was felt. Her expressive face told stories of joy, mischief, compassion, and light. Her vivid blue-green eyes held remarkable depth, connecting especially with those who felt unseen. She made people feel known-not just with her words, but with her presence. Molly's beauty was most powerful because it reflected the love and empathy she carried within.
Molly's presence brought joy and inspiration to everyone who knew her. She lived generously, loved deeply, and left a lasting impression on hearts far and wide.
Molly is lovingly survived by her parents, Ryan and Elizabeth, and her beloved sister, Annie. She is also survived by her paternal grandparents, Chris and Mary Anne DeWitt, and maternal grandparents, Max and Vicki Garrett. Molly was deeply loved by her extended family, including her aunts and uncles: Sean and Trudy DeWitt and their daughters, Reagan and Riley; Brendan and Virginia DeWitt and their children, Adelaide and McAllen; Kevin and Natalie DeWitt and their sons, Henry and Conor; Tyler and Abby Garrett and their children, Audrey and Davis; and Charlotte Garrett.
The family will gather for a celebration of Molly's life at 2:30 in the afternoon on Friday, the 11th of July, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. All who were touched by her light are welcome.
In lieu of flowers or other remembrances, the family invites you to honor Molly's memory through a gift to The Molly Claire DeWitt Legacy Fund https://ghcf.kimbia.com/themollydewittfund, which will be directed to causes that mattered deeply to her.
Though her time here was heartbreakingly short, Molly's legacy of empathy, wonder, and unfiltered joy will live on in every act of kindness done in her name.

Elizabeth, I cannot express in words how much I'm grieving for your loss. The last two days I have thought of you and your family countless times. I am praying for you all and will continue to over and over. Molly is in our sweet Lord's arms feeling His love and ultimate care. "In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." I hope and pray that you and your family can think of her there, full of joy and love just as she lived in her life here, but also as only heaven can give us .... in perfect joy and love.

Ryan, Elizabeth and Chris. Everyday, you hear or read of tragedy but you NEVER expect it to happen to anyone you know. Dorci & I are so sorry for your terrible loss and praying for you. I never met Molly but as I know her dad and grandpa, I am beyond certain she was a wonderful little girl, a great daughter/grand-daughter and an incredible soul. While she is in a better place, the loss is still hard, painful and out of natures order.

Dear M/M DeWitt l wrote every little girls names down from the pictures and post by their parents & loved ones when they were missing and prayed to our CREATOR. I marked each name as they were recovered & prayed for their loved ones, especially parents & did as our MESSIAH commanded mourn w/those who mourn. I have no fancy words because they´re inadequate now. No scriptures need to be recited to you as you know the CREATOR. I simply say having lost 54 family and friends in 7 years, including 4 in one weekend - cut off all the lights - light a candle in her honor, play her favorite music & cry. I love you all w/the love of the CREATOR even though l have never met you. Death, pain, suffering is universal but, so is compassion, empathy & love. I send mine to you.

I am absolutely heartbroken about precious Molly! It seems like yesterday I was pulling her up off of the bottom
of the pool picking up rings she loved to dive for! I will ALWAYS remember those big beautiful eyes staring at me coming up out of the water with her huge smile! She ALWAYS made me smile! You all were such wonderful
Parents always so proud of her swimming progress!
Bless you all and know you are each covered with so many prayers and love and will continue to be as you navigate the days ahead! I am SO SO SO SORRY and sending so many hugs to each of you for peace that surpasses all! May that precious soul rest in peace!
